Walking

Riverside walks have never been as peaceful as ours

Our area boasts some of the best walks in the county. Enjoy a riverside stroll from your doorstep and take in the scenery, you may even spot some of our wonderful wildlife on your travels!

Our favourite riverside walk starts when you cross the green footbridge outside the site entrance gates! If you turn left and walk upstream you will eventually reach Allensford Country Park where you can admire our local countryside views or even enjoy a hot drink and a snack at the park café! Watch out for kingfishers, herons and dippers along the river!

Shotley Bridge also has three heritage trail walks, pointing out buildings of interest and linking them with people who shaped its past.

Our site is also not far from the Derwent Walk railway path which is a popular 12 mile linear route between Consett and Swalwell. This path provides you with outstanding views across the Derwent Valley as the route passes through woodland and runs past picturesque ponds and riverside spots. This walking route is also steeped in history as you will pass through the ex steelworks site at Consett. Don’t forget to stop and read the information boards for more information about the history of the area!
